TinkerCAD is a free 3D design software available to use online. Once you’ve learnt the basics, there are some more complicated tools and techniques you can use to either improve your design, or streamline your process. So with that said, let’s get straight to learning about the ‘Align tool’.

STEP 1: Select your objects

3 red cubes are selected at once, on tinker cad.

Selecting multiple objects can be done by holding the ‘SHIFT’ key and LEFT-clicking on multiple objects, you will have the option to align once you’ve selected 2 or more objects.

Here there are 3 cuboids selected, however you can align 2 or more spheres, pyramids and any other objects you use within Tinker CAD.

Step 2: Select the ‘Align’ tool

Once you have at least two objects selected, select the ‘Align’ tool (circled in yellow), This will make the selected objects enter the align tool’s grid.

Step 3: Using the align tool

This is the grid for the align tool. Here you can see 9 dots, each placed at either the ends or middle points on each dimension. Hovering over a dot will show you the result of aligning the objects to this point. The light grey dot signifies that all selected objects are currently aligned to this point.

Step 4: Preview and Align

Here you can see 4 examples of the Align preview feature, once you’ve found an alignment that suits your needs, click on the dot and your selected objects will align however you’ve chosen. You can always use the ‘Ctrl+Z’ shortcut to undo any unwanted alignments.
